Man arrested for kidnapping, attacking ex-girlfriend in Paradis

After a woman ran into the Paradis Branch library, St. Charles Deputies began searching for her ex-boyfriend who kidnapped and beat her Tuesday morning.

PARADIS, La. -- St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man who kidnapped his former girlfriend.

According to Sheriff Greg Champagne, around 9:30 a.m., Jerry Celestine, 22, kidnapped his former girlfriend at gunpoint on Paul Frederick Street in Luling and forced her to drive.

"He essentially carjacked her on Paul Frederick Street in Luling," said Champagne.  Celestine jumped in front her car with a weapon and then forced his way into the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Celestine forced the victim to drive along Old Spanish Trail in Paradis. "The victim slammed on the brakes and was able to jump out of the car," said Champagne.

Celestine got behind the wheel of the car, trying to follow the woman, but crashed the car into a ditch.

The victim ran to the Paradis Library, 307 Audubon Street, and found safety inside. Employees of the library locked the doors and didn't allow Celestine to enter.

"She (the victim) had been beaten about the head," said Champagne. "She had been pistol-whipped."

Celestin fled the scene on foot. He taken into custody around 12:30 p.m.
