LAPLACE, La. - On Wednesday, St. John Deputy Brandon Nielsen, 34, was laid to rest after being killed in the line of duty during Thursday's shoot out in LaPlace.

Nielsen and Jeremy Triche were fatally shot and two other deputies were wounded in the incident. Triche was buried on Monday.

Nielsen's family said he loved being a motorcycle officer and escorting events ranging from weddings to presidential visits.

Nielsen is the father two daughters and three stepsons. His oldest is 18-years-old and his youngest is six-years-old.

Nielsen's funeral procession started at New Wine Christian Fellowship at 7 a.m. and was followed by funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 11 a.m.

A huge procession included law enforcement from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas - it took 10 minutes for all of the vehicles to leave the assembly area in LaPlace. There were an estimated 200 motorcycles, some from law enforcement units and some from civilian groups.

Nielsen's motorcycle was parked in front of his memorial sight, where a large crowd of law enforcement and officials, like Gov. Bobby Jindal, were found.

"He was all about his job. He did his job. He did his job well," said Tanya Daniels of the Laplace Volunteer Fire Department.

The incident is still fresh in the St. John community's mind.

"Our place is quiet...We never have nothing like this. Not that bad," said Sheila Stein.

"The community is distraught, as understandable. The community unity since this has happened has been amazing. We're all impressed with how the police community in Louisiana has turned out," said Woody Norsworthy.

The St. John Sheriffs Office said Deputy Michael Boyington and Deputy Jason Triche are still recovering in the hospital and their conditions continue to improve

Boyington underwent surgery early Tuesday morning and doctors are making sure Triche gets all the rest he needs to recover.

Doctors have no word yet on when either will be released.
