LAPLACE, La. -- St. John the Baptist Parish deputies say a 17-year-old wanted for a murder in LaPlace on Sunday surrendered to authorities and is now in jail on second-degree murder charges.

Spence Adams, 17, turned himself in just before 7 p.m. Monday, according to Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the St. John sheriff’s office.

Adams is the suspect in the shooting death of Eric Labranch, 32, of LaPlace.  The shooting happened Sunday just before 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of Houma Drive and Grant Drive.

Clement said witnesses told police the shooting followed an argument between two men.

Clement said bond for Adams was set at $500,000.
