Vacherie, La. – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal accident that left a Waggaman man dead and two other people injured.
The accident occurred just after 5:00 a.m. Monday morning on LA3127 in St. John Parish, near the St. James Parish line.
According to State Police, a 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by 37-year-old Alloyd Rideaux, was heading north on LA3127, when he began passing another northbound vehicle. As he passed the vehicle, Rideaux sideswiped a southbound 2010 Ford F-150, driven by 58-year-old James St. Pierre.
After sideswiping the F-150, the Rideaux continued to drive his Altima north in the southbound lane, when he hit a 2008 F-250 head on.
The F-250, driven by 46-year-old Rickey Hebert, was immediately struck a second time by a 1994 GMC Sierra, driven by 50-year-old Ray Mahler.
Rideaux was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, and it is unclear at this time, whether he was wearing a seat belt. Rideaux’s front passenger, 34-year-old Clara Williams was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Hebert, who was wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries in the crash and was also transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. Mahler and St. Pierre, were both wearing seatbelts and were not injured in the crash.
Alcohol use is unknown at this time, but routine toxicology tests are pending for Rideaux. Blood was taken from Hebert and results are pending. St. Pierre and Mahler submitted to breath tests and were cleared.
