St. John firefighter, injured in deadly I-10 bus wreck, released from the hospital

NEW ORLEANS -- Firefighter Nick Saale, who was injured in a deadly bus crash on I-10 in LaPlace, has been released from the hospital.

According to the New Orleans Advocate, Saale spent nine days at University Medical Center after being hit during a wreck Aug. 29 and falling from the expressway about 20-40 feet into the water below. Saale was responding to an earlier accident on the interstate, along with Fire Chief Spencer Chauvin and Firefighter William Beal.

The driver of the charter bus involved in the wreck, Denis Yasmir Amaya Rodriguez, 37, was not licensed. Rodriguez is also an undocumented illegal alien, state police said. He faces multiple charges in the wreck, including negligent homicide.
