NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Former mayor Ray Nagin is facing what could be serious prison time as he was convicted on 20 of 21 corruption charges, and he'll find out how much time in just a few months, on June 11th.

It took a federal jury just 6.5-hours of deliberation to find Nagin guilty on 20 out of 21 public corruption charges, including bribery, money laundering and wire fraud.

After hearing the verdict Wednesday afternoon, the former mayor maintained his innocence, but United States Attorney Kenneth Polite released a statement after the verdict saying, “Our public servants pledge to provide honest services to the people of southeast Louisiana. We are committed to bringing any politician who violates that obligation to justice."

Nagin is now on home confinement until his sentencing.

Joining the Eyewitness Morning News by phone to talk about the trial is Nagin’s Defense Attorney, Robert Jenkins.
