NEW YORK (AP) — Part of a major New York City bridge will be closed at least through Sunday after a truck caught fire and sent clouds of black smoke billowing over the city.
There were no reports of injuries in the fire Friday on the Ed Koch (KAHCH') Queensboro Bridge. But it caused a major traffic mess that spilled into the streets of midtown Manhattan.
Thick, black smoke billowed from the double-decker span's lower level. It took about two hours to get the fire under control.
WINS Radio reported that electrical cables that stretch along the side of the bridge also caught fire.
