HAMMOND, La. (AP) — The city has canceled its Independence Day fireworks show, which had been set for Zemurray Park.
The Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/J7MMto ) work on renovating the park pond is not expected to be completed until late summer.
Lacy Landrum, Hammond's grants manager, said the perimeter of the pond will be fenced off but regular park traffic will be allowed.
Mayor Mayson Foster said other major events usually held at the park also will be canceled while construction proceeds.
