THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office says two men serving time for contempt of court face new charges after a fire that prompted a brief evacuation of the parish jail.

Deputy Brennan Matherne says 21-year-old Skylleur Hayes of Thibodaux allegedly started the fire after telling an inmate who had been beaten the day before that he'd face another beating unless he covered the security camera.

He says 20-year-old Jovanta Johnson allegedly beat the inmate whom Hayes is accused of threatening Wednesday.

In a news release, Matherne says the fire Wednesday night spread smoke throughout the jail, prompting a one-hour evacuation. He says nothing else was damaged and nobody was hurt.

Matherne says Hayes was booked Thursday with aggravated arson and simple assault, and Johnson with simple battery.
