HAMMOND, La. (AP) — State police say a 27-year-old Ponchatoula woman was killed when a vehicle struck her as she walked across the westbound lanes of Interstate 12 about 2 miles west of the La. 445/Robert exit in Tangipahoa Parish.
Trooper Nick Manale says Crystal Joiner and her boyfriend, Tod Reddicks, were driving east on I-12 about 9 a.m. Saturday when the two began arguing and Reddicks pulled over on the shoulder of the interstate. Manale says Joiner stepped out of the car, crossed both the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-12 and then began walking along the westbound shoulder, with Reddicks following, when she abruptly stepped into the path of a westbound vehicle.
Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Joiner dead at the scene.
