BOGALUSA, La. (AP) — Louisiana state police have arrested seven people in Bogalusa in what authorities are calling an illegal gambling and bookmaking operation.
State police say detectives recovered about $10,000 in cash, bookmaking materials and a small amount of marijuana.
The warrants were served Thursday at two Bogalusa addresses, based on tips to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.
Police say 64-year-old Lee Henry and 68-year-old Larry Blackwell, both of Bogalusa, are charged with illegal gambling.
Three others were arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit illegal gambling. They are 58-year-old Debra Henry, 47-year-old Ronald Peters and 57-year-old Melvin Fields.
Police say 20-year-old Willie D. Roberts Jr. was arrested on a charge of 2nd possession of marijuana offense and 24-year-old Lacourte J. Cooley was arrested on a charge of simple possession of marijuana.
