HAMMOND, La. – A road rage incident led to a shooting at a gas station off of Interstate-12, according to Dawn Panepinto, a spokesperson for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Around 12:45 p.m Friday., deputies responded to a shooting at the Chevron gas station off the interstate on Airport Road.
Before the shooting, Adam Weedman, 39, of Ponchatoula, and Jeremy Cook, 31, of Springfield, were “engaged in an alleged case of a road rage incident on I-12,” Panepinto said.
Cook followed Weedman off the interstate into the Chevron parking lot, and then got out of his vehicle and confronted Weedman. Cook, according to the sheriff’s office, went back to his vehicle and got a gun. He fired the gun at Weedman, hitting the victim in the leg.
Weedman was able to wrestle the gun from Cook, but the weapon went off a second time, hitting Weedman in the hand. The sheriff’s office said Weedman underwent surgery in New Orleans for his injuries. He is reported to be in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Cook faces second-degree battery charges. Additional charges and arrest may be forthcoming.
