COVINGTON, La. - The sheriff's office has arrested the 17-year-old son of a man found dead inside of a northshore home on charges that he murdered his father and his two-year-old half sister.
Jacob Middleton Jr., of Metairie was arrested and booked into St. Tammany on two counts of first-degree murder.
Jacob Middleton Sr. and his two-year-old daughter Makayla Middleton were found inside of the Abita Nursery subdivision home by the girl's mother.
The coroner's office said that both victims died of gunshot wounds to the head. The bodies were discovered by the young girl's mother.
A sheriff's office spokesman said that during questioning by investigators early Tuesday morning, Middleton admitted to shooting his father and his half-sister. He indicated that his actions were the result of, among other things, his hatred of his father for what he claimed was years of abuse and family violence.
“Any time a crime such as this occurs with such a young victim, it makes us want to hold onto our own children and remember the blessings of family. These crimes defy explanation or logic, but we will remember those who were lost in this senseless tragedy and pray for those they leave behind,” Sheriff Jack Strain said.
