BOGALUSA, La. – A 24-year-old woman was sentenced to life in prison after entering a guilty plea in a case where a 6-week-old baby was beaten to death while she was sitting for the child.
The incident occurred on March 7, 2008.
Amy Thomas was originally charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Diana Nelson, but she pleaded to second-degree murder.
The case was scheduled to go to trial Monday in Judge Raymond Childress’ court.
In what was considered one of the worst cases of child abuse in Washington Parish history, the baby was found with blunt force trauma to the head, burns and drugs in her system.
