ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. - Benson O'Brien III has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a 40-year sentence for the murder of his girlfriend, Bridgete Harveston.

O'Brien III, who is the grandson of the man who founded Pat O'Brien's bar in the French Quarter, was accused of killing Harveston, 31, who was found strangled to death in Covington in May 2012.

Harveston, a mother of three children, was found inside a rural home owned by O'Brien's father outside of Covington.

O'Brien was originally charged with second degree murder, but pleaded guilty to manslaughter Wednesday. Harveston's family supported the plea deal.
