BOGALUSA, La. -- A week before classes are set to begin, the Bogalusa City Schools superintendent has resigned.
Louise Smith quit on Friday, ahead of a special school board meeting called to re-consider her contract.
Board members said at a previous meeting over Smith's evaluation that they were unhappy with her performance. Smith's resignation letter did not indicate why she was leaving.
At that special meeting Friday, board members chose an acting superintendent, who vows to be ready for classes next week.
No word on when the board will start the search for a new superintendent.
