SLIDELL, La. - A 70-year-old woman mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brakes and crashed her car into a post office in Olde Towne Slidell, injuring six Tuesday morning, according to Slidell Police.
Police said one victim was airlifted with a head injury, but the injury doesn't appear to be life-threatening.
That appeared to be the worst of the injuries as the others who were injured were being treated by EMS at the scene.
Police said they believe the incident was accidental.
The front glass at the post office was smashed and a couple of mail boxes were pushed into the building.
The 2nd Street Post Office closed after the accident. However, the PO Box portion of the building remained open.
A temporary office was set up outside. Customers are also encouraged to visit other post offices in the meantime.
There was no estimation on a re-opening date by news time.
