MADISONVILLE, La. - The St. Tammany Coroner's Office says a woman found dead in Bayou DeZaire in Madisonville Tuesday morning died from drowning and blunt force trauma to the head. She's identified as 37-year-old Katrina Toole from Tickfaw.
The Sheriff's Office said the body was in the water between a large boat and a pier along the water’s edge. At the time of the discovery, the water temperature had dropped to dangerously cold levels and the body was in a place that made escape from the bayou extremely difficult.
Investigators have determined the woman had been dropped off at the boat – which belonged to a friend – Monday evening. The boat’s owner called to have the Sheriff’s office check on the woman after he could not reach her on her phone Tuesday morning.
The investigation into the woman’s death is still ongoing; however, there were no signs of a struggle on the boat and investigators have not uncovered any other indications of foul play.
