MANDEVILLE, La. - The St. Tammany Coroner released the cause of death for a Mandeville teenager
St. Tammany Coroner determines cause of death for Connor Guinn, 17, to be "positional asphyxia due to alcohol toxicity." The death is considered accidental, according to the coroner.
Due to the alcohol in Guinn's system, he was unconscious and in a position that compromised his airway, according to the coroner.
Medical units from the St. Tammany Fire Department discovered the body of Guinn at his apartment in the 600 block of Lafitte Street, police said.
The spokesman said that evidence collected on the scene, including an empty bottle of bourbon, and interviews with witnesses suggested that alcohol may have been a factor. That was confirmed by the coroner on Thursday.
Police are interviewing Guinn's friends to get a better timeline of events and see if the case may lead to criminal charges.
"It's not just something that affects an individual. This loss affects his family, the school, the whole community," Lt. Gerald Sticker said.
