A Covington police officer at the center of the controversial arrests of two high school football referees is under investigation again.

Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz announced late Tuesday afternoon that Sgt. Stephen Short is on paid administrative leave while he looks into how Short accessed information only available on the police department's phone recording system.

Red flags went up when specific recording requests were submitted regarding Short's appeal of his demotion punishment for the referee situation in October.  Short wanted copies of two calls Chief Lentz made to the two referees, and a call a detective made to a possible witness.

The chief says he is looking into what happened, who was involved and if any policies were violated.
