KENTWOOD, La. – A 26-year-old Mississippi Man has died in a two-vehicle accident Sunday morning just south of Kentwood.
Louisiana State Police believe the drivers in both vehicles were impaired.
Trooper Nick Manale said both Jeremy Owen, 26, and Colby McNabb, 22, were speeding on U.S. 51 and driving recklessly. Owen was driving southbound in the northbound lane, while McNabb was driving south in the southbound lane when the Owen’s vehicle made contact with the rear of McNabb’s vehicle.
Owen lost control of his vehicle and drove off the road to the east side of the highway. He was ejected from the vehicle after he hit several trees on the side of the road.
Owen, who wasn’t wearing his seat belt, later died at Hood Memorial Hospital.
McNabb and passenger Marylee Campbell, 21, were both wearing seat belts and were unharmed.
McNabb, who blew over the legal limit in his breathalyzer test, faces charges of vehicular homicide and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Toxicology results are pending.
