HAMMOND, La. -- A committee in Hammond charged with creating new elements to the city's vicious dog ordinance has finalized its recommendation for the city council.

The committee met for the last time Tuesday night, and are suggesting more restrictions of housing vicious animals, registration for any animal with the city, and harsher penalties for dog owners that don't comply with the requirements.

The current ordinance does not outline any specific breed, but does define what a vicious dog is considered, which includes an actual attack or aggressiveness toward people.

The council will consider the recommendations at its next meeting.
