SLIDELL, La. -- Road improvements in the Slidell area were the talk of the town Monday morning, as DOTD officials came to the Northshore to wrap up a widening project along Interstate-12.

The widening project has been a long-time coming for the Northshore, and for many, it is doing more than just easing traffic."

A ribbon cutting Monday morning officially opened up I-12 to six lanes near the Northshore Boulevard exit to the I-10, I-59 interchange.  Leaders say the project helps St. Tammany stay ahead of its growth and create new business opportunities at the same time.

"One of the greatest strengths of economic development is the east of transportation in and throughout St. Tammany Parish.  We'll always need to stay one step ahead of the demand for transportation," said Pat Brister, president of St. Tammany Parish.

Leaders and drivers hope to see this project prove its worth as holiday shopping and travel kicks off this month
