COVINGTON, La. -- A St. Tammany jury found Jody Swafford guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Carl Glass II on Wednesday.
The murder happened in April 2006 at Glass's home in Slidell.
Swafford worked for Glass's tree removal business after Hurricane Katrina.
The jury deliberated for roughly two hours before finding Swafford guilty. Prosecutors were not seeking the death penalty, so the mandatory sentence will be life in prison.
Prosecutors say Swafford and another man, Timothy Murray, beat and strangled Glass during a robbery. Murray's trial is expected to come next year.
Murray escaped from the St. Tammany Parish Jail last year along with three others, and was the last to be brought back into custody.
Prosecutors are expected to seek the death penalty against Murray.
