SLIDELL, La. - A 28-year-old man died following an accident where his vehicle ran into the back of a large truck early Sunday on I-12 about a mile west of U.S. 11 in Slidell.

State Police say Jason Dansby died from injuries suffered in the crash.

According to State Police, Dansby was driving in the left lane of I-12 in a pickup truck and a Peterbilt car carrier was traveling in the right lane, ahead of Dansby.

State Police said both vehicles were traveling through a speed-restricted construction zone and that as Dansby left the construction area, he accelerated and passed several cars before moving into the right westbound lane behind the Peterbilt truck.

Police said Dansby did not slow down and struck the rear of the car carrier, which caused his pickup to overturn several times.

Neither the driver, nor the passenger in the car carrier were injured. The driver was given a blood alcohol test that showed no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.

Police said Dansby was wearing a seat belt at the time and was transported to the University Medical Center where he later died.s.
