LIVINGSTON, La. -- A man in Livingston Parish accused of cutting his pregnant wife and removing her baby appeared in court Thursday.

Jeffery Reynolds is charged with feticide and attempted second-degree murder.

Deputies described the scene in Walker as gruesome, and say Reynolds was combative when he was arrested in October.

Reynolds spoke out before appearing before the judge and hinted that he may have been under the influence of synthetic marijuana when he allegedly attacked his wife.

“I love my wife and son with all my heart,” he said. “I hope the state will enforce laws against marijuana - synthetic marijuana.”

Reynold's toxicology report has not yet been released.

He's due back in court for a motions hearing to revoke bond on Feb. 4.
