MANDEVILLE, La. -- Big promises were made to the people of Mandeville as an almost all-new set of leaders were sworn in Monday.
Mayor Don Villere will be serving his first full term, although he's run the office for the past two years. Four of the five council members are serving their first terms with the city.
The group is committed to growing the community from the outside, in, but keeping the face of Mandeville the way everyone knows it.
They also have a common goal to increase transparency. They want information to be accessible and clear. They want the community to be more involved in council meetings and are offering a more open environment for the public through the city website.
It's an ongoing effort to make up for the past, including former Mayor Eddie Price's admitted corruption scandal.
"Our reputation was somewhat soiled, a little bit, but I think we're back on the right track," Villere said.
The council plans to unveil more of those new transparency plans, in detail, at its first meeting next week.
