Mandeville man charged in auto crash that severely injures young son, daughter

LACOMBE, La. - A 36-year-old Mandeville man has been charged in connection with a crash that left his 10-year-old son and eight-year-old daughter with severe injuries, according to State Police.

Kenneth Mayfield faces charges of reckless operation of a vehicle, first degree negligent injuring and DWI with child endangerment.

According to State Police, Mayfield was traveling west on I-12 near the LA 434/Lacombe exit when his pickup left the road and went into the grass median. Police said Mayfield then overcorrected and the pickup went across two lanes of traffic and off the right side where it struck a tree.

The two children were severely injured despite wearing seatbelts and both were taken to the LSU Medcial Center in New Orleans.

Mayfield was also taken to the LSU medical center. He will be booked into St. Tammany Parish jail upon his release.
