CITY OF MANDEVILLE PRESS RELEASE (9/10/12)
Important notice to all citizens:
- Sunset Point is closed to the public. There is extensive damage and it will be closed for approximately 3 months. Our storm debris team is using that area. No one else is allowed. Traffic violations will be enforced.
- Storm debris pick up is underway. Monday Weldon Park and Woodstone will be covered and Beau Rivage Monday afternoon. Once the city is complete, a second pass will probably take place next week.
- Please remember to segregate storm debris as follows: green waste vs. household debris. If you have construction debris, it is helpful if you separate that from household debris as well. Storm debris teams will not pick up household garbage, that is for the garbage company only.
Updates - As we continue to work toward restoration of our normal activities and recovery, we will offer updates on the City website, www.cityofmandeville.com. If you would like those updates to be sent to your personal email, please sign up for email notifications on the front page of our website.
Garbage pick up and recycling will resume Wednesday, September 12. Progressive, will not be picking up the green waste till DRC is completed with storm pick up.
Residents who were flooded by the storm need to obtain permits from the city of the following repairs:
- Tree damage
- Any damage to houses other than purely cosmetic
- Any damage from flooding
- Electrical reconnections
- Damage to utilities
Additionally, teams of inspectors both from the city and from FEMA will be in the flooded areas of the city starting today to conduct Substantial Damage Estimates on flooded structures. These inspections will allow the city to begin issuing permits to affected homeowners to make repairs as well as to identify structures that might qualify for additional federal assistance.
Each inspection will take approximately 20 minutes, and following the inspections, the city will mail each homeowner a letter detailing their percentage of damage.
