SLIDELL, La. -- Deputies recovered the body of a missing man who was reported missing after not returning from a midday fishing trip Tuesday on Lake Pontchartrain, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found the body of Ricky Nguyen, 20, of Slidell, after an extensive search, Sgt. Sean Beavers, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said in a statement.
Around 9 p.m., a family member called the sheriff's office to report Nguyen missing, said the sheriff's office, "stating that he had left the Lakeshore Estates area around noon to go fishing but failed to return home."
"Nguyen was last seen leaving the area in his 14-foot green flat boat heading to an unknown destination. Attempts to contact him by cell phone were immediately forwarded to his voicemail."
Using helicopter and boats, Nguyen's boat was found near the end of Sunset Boulevard in Lakeshore Estates, where the vessel had run around, said the sheriff's office. Shortly after midnight Nguyen's body was located underwater.
Wildlife agents are investigating the incident as an apparent boating accident pending a determination of cause of death by the Coroner’s Office, said the sheriff's office.
