COVINGTON, La. - A 38-year-old woman who made headlines after her autistic son was beaten up while walking home from the library, has been arrested on allegations of SNAP benefit fraud.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, Christine Kelley was arrested Friday, June 20 for felony theft.
The arrest came after the state Department of Children and Family Services completed a lengthy investigation into the SNAP (food stamp) benefits Kelley was receiving for her family.
Kelley is accused of lying on her benefit application, stating she was divorced and not claiming her husband’s income. Since 2008, she has reportedly received $55,000 in fraudulent SNAP benefits.
Kelley was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail and was released on bond the same day.
