PEARL RIVER, La. - A 19-year-old teenager was killed and another hospitalized after a homemade explosive device went off in the Pearl River area.

Thomas J. Rinkus Jr. died of injuries sustained in the blast, St. Tammany Parish coroner Dr. Peter Galvan said Monday afternoon.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman George Bonnett said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday on St. Paul Drive. He said it was a basic device and wasn't made to take anywhere for malicious purpose.
