Pedestrian stuck and killed on shoulder of road

SCHRIEVER, La. - A man walking on the shoulder of LA 20 in Terrebonne Parish was struck and killed by a passing car early Tuesday morning.

According to State Police, 24-year-old Nicholas Shaw was walking on the shoulder of LA 20 around 7 a.m. when he was struck by a 2001 Nissan Sentra driven by Guy Cheramie.

Police said Cheramie was traveling south and in the left lane of the highway when it drifted onto the left shoulder and struck Shaw.

The victim was taken to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said that Cheramie submitted to a breath test and was under the legal limit. The case is still under investigation.
