SLIDELL, La. - Two North Carolina teens traveling through the state robbed an 80-year-old woman and were chased down by a pair of Good Samaritans and eventually arrested, according to Slidell Police.
Spokesman Daniel Seuzeneau said the incident occurred around 6:30 pm Friday in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
According to Seuzeneau, Jacob Little and Jacob Pilkington were driving through Slidell en route to Texas when they were running low on gas and decided to troll the Wal-Mart parking lot for an easy mark to rob for fuel money.
While circling the parking lot in their vehicle, they saw an 80-year-old woman loading groceries into her car, approached her and grabbed the purse out of her hands.
Seuzeneau said the woman screamed for help and two men began to chase the suspects on foot. The suspects got back into their vehicle and drove off. The Good Samaritans got into a car as well and began pursuit, calling 911 and relaying their position to Slidell Police.
The police conducted a traffic stop on the suspects' car and they were taken into custody without incident.
"These two guys picked the wrong city to stop and rob someone, and the fact that they victimized an elderly woman disgusts me," says Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith. "However, once again, our citizens came through and are the true hero's in this case. I'm also proud of my officers for their quick response in apprehending these two individuals," says Chief Smith.
The victim of the robbery was not injured, and her purse was recovered. Both Mr. Little and Mr. Pilkington are now facing one count of Simple Robbery, and are currently being held at the Slidell City Jail. Both suspects will later be transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
