COVINGTON, La. – Police have made an arrest in connection with a home invasion shooting that occurred over the summer in Covington.
According to police, Daren Turner was arrested and booked on charges of home invasion, being a principal to attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Police said Turner and another suspect were trying to break into a home on June 28 around 4 a.m. on East 33rd Avenue. The home was occupied by a man, his girlfriend and her young child when the woman apparently woke up upon hearing the suspects trying to make entry.
The home owner went to confront the suspects and was shot in the torso. He was taken to the hospital and treated and released.
Police said they recovered a firearm and several ‘projectiles’ and after a four-month investigation, they centered in on Turner as one of the suspects.
They said they expect to identify the second suspect with information obtained following Turner’s arrest.
