BATON ROUGE, La. -- An effort to strip the St. Tammany Parish coroner of power is closer to reality.
The Louisiana State Senate voted unanimously to give financial control of Dr. Peter Galvan's office to the parish council.
The bill now heads to Gov. Bobby Jindal's desk for his signature.
Galvan is accused of misspending money, including the questionable use of credit cards, excessive self-set salaries, and possible misuse of vehicles and property.
A federal investigation into possible wrongdoing by Galvan is also underway.
