SLIDELL, La. - A registered sex offender who had just been released from prison a month ago is under arrest again after a complaint that he raped a 13-year-old girl.
According to Slidell Police spokesman Daniel Seuzeneau, police began investigating a case in which the victim said she was held down and raped by a 17-year-old she identified as Daniel Jones.
Police eventually concluded that the suspect was not a 17-year-old named Daniel Jones, but instead a 23-year-old named Bert Jones, who had been released in January after serving a 4-year sentence for being convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. The victim in that case was 14-years-old.
A warrant was issued for Jones for forcible rape and Friday morning he was located at his apartment, 756 Gause Boulevard, Apartment 31, in Slidell, and was arrested without incident.
Jones is currently being held at the Slidell City Jail, and will eventually be transported to the St. Tammany Parish Jail. Seuzeneau said it is believed that Mr. Jones was potentially preying on young females through social media and through a local youth church group, but the investigation is still ongoing.
Slidell Police are asking anyone that may have had contact with Bert Jones, AKA Daniel Jones, to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 985-646-6347.
