SLIDELL -- The Slidell Police Department is investigating a July 4 incident that left a Slidell man dead after he was struck by a train, according to police.
Police said 37-year-old David Finch died of fatal injuries suffered from being hit by the train. The incident occurred on the tracks near the intersection of Gause Boulevard and Front Street.
Around 1:30 a.m., Finch was walking on the train tracks alongside Front Street when a train traveling northbound struck him, according to police. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said Finch might have been impaired, but those facts won't be known until after toxicology tests are done. As of now, the incident is being called a tragic accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
