SLIDELL, La. — A 24-year-old Slidell man was arrested after officers found stolen firearms, assault rifles, body armor and drugs in his house, the Slidell Police Department reported Monday.
Christopher Bass was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, three counts of illegal carrying of a weapon, unlawful use of body armor, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“Although we have recently made several arrests in reference to the burglaries in our area, this is an example of the increased criminal activity we’re experiencing in Slidell,” Chief Randy Smith said. “I will continue to use every available resource I have to combat this increase in crime.”
According to SPD Public Information Officer Daniel Seuzeneau, detectives obtained a search warrant after receiving a tip during a recent investigation into residential and vehicular burglaries that Bass was wielding stolen firearms and assault rifles.
In exercising the search warrant, officers searched Bass’ home, finding a stolen Springfield .40 caliber handgun, an AK-47 assault rifle, an SKS assault rifle, body armor and a ballistic helmet along with narcotics and drug paraphernalia, Seuzeneau said.
The handgun was found to be stolen in a recent vehicle burglary, he said.
