WASHINGTON PARISH, La. -- A Bogalusa man was killed in single-vehicle crash Tuesday evening, according to State Police.

Around 9 p.m., Benjamin Dykes Jr., 37, died after crashing a SUV at the intersection of Mitchell Road and LA 1075, three miles south of the city limits of Bogalusa, Trooper Nick Manale said. Dykes was not wearing his seat belt.

According to the investigation, Dykes was headed west on Mitchell Road, but didn't stop at the intersection of LA 1075, crossed both lanes of LA 1075 and went into a ditch and hit a tree, Manale said.

Dykes was taken to LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa where he was pronounced dead, according to State Police.

Whether Dykes was impaired is unknown, results of a toxicology examination are pending, Manale said.
