PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) -- A Louisiana man has been sentenced to serve 16 years in prison on felony DUI charges in a 2010 accident that killed a 53-year-old woman and injured several others.
Jackson County Circuit Judge Kathy King Jackson on Tuesday sentenced Christopher Salvatore Harper of Tickfaw, La., to 25 years in prison with 16 years to serve and nine years of post-release supervision. The 25-year-old Harper pleaded guilty to DUI causing death.
Authorities say Angelia Laster died from her injuries after being trapped in her burning vehicle on U.S. Highway 90 between the Pascagoula high-rise bridge and the Gautier city limits.
Authorities arrested Harper shortly after his vehicle slammed into the back of Angelia F. Laster's Chevrolet Tracker.
Prosecutors say Harper's blood alcohol content was over the 0.08 percent legal limit.
