NEAR COVINGTON, La. - A 58-year-old man riding his bike in a subdivision near Covington was struck head on by a Jeep this weekend and died on Monday, according to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.
Raymond Unland, a triathlete, was riding on Riverland Drive in the Tchefuncte Estates subdivision when he was hit by the Jeep Wrangler, which was driven by a 16-year-old boy, whose name was not released due to his age.
Unland was taken to St. Tammany Parish hospital and then airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans where he died Monday.
The incident occurred around 2:30 pm Sunday.
The sheriff's office said that it is not believed that alcohol or speed played a part in the crash; however, the incident is still under investigation. No citations have been issued at this time.
