VARNADO, La. - Two men were killed and two others were injured in a shooting incident near the village of Varnado late Friday night, according to the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred on Moses Road near Varnado. The two deceased men were identified as Brandon Alexander and Denzell Wise.
According to the sheriff's office, no other people were present at the scene except for the deceased, however, a short time later two wounded men showed up at a Washington Parish hospital for treatment, deputies said that their injuries required them to be taken to larger medical facilities.
Two suspects have been taken into custody, one was apprehended early Saturday, while the other turned himself in to authorities around noon. Two others are being sought.
Both of those taken into custody are being held as material witnesses to the double killing.
The hospitals where the injured men were taken are under 24-hour guard.
“These are the first homicides in Washington Parish this year and I pray they are the last," said Sheriff Randy Seal. "Chief Haley and Chief Smith are working with our detectives this morning to help unravel the details of this tragic event and we fully intend to present our suspects to the District Attorney for prosecution very soon.”
