COVINGTON, La. - Two family pets died in an early morning house fire in Covington Friday, according to the St. Tammany Fire Protection District 12.

At 2:11 a.m., a neighbor called 911 to report the home at 533 Bentwood Dr. in Crestwood Subdivision was on fire.

Six minutes later, firefighters arrived to find that the fire had spread to 50 percent of the structure, officials said.

Two dogs died in the blaze, and no one else was home at the time, the fire district said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It took a little more than two hours to bring the fire under control, officials said.

A total of 17 personnel and 11 fire engines responded. Five personnel from Fire District Four and three personnel from Fire District Two also assisted. Officials from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Acadian Ambulance and Cleco responded.
