AMITE, La. - A 38-year-old Independence woman was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on attempted second-degree homicide charges after she allegedly struck the father of her children with a car.
The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. in the 58000 block of Old Hwy. 51 south of Amite.
According to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, Shawanda Robertson was charged with one count of attempted second-degree homicide, one count of felony hit and run and one count of failure to appear.
Edwards said that a witness called the sheriff's office and said that a man had been struck by a car and then identified Robertson as the suspect.
The victim was found in a ditch suffering from severe leg injuries. He was taken to North Oaks Hospital and was listed in critical condition.
Robertson was found at her place of work and taken into custody.
