HOUSTON (AP) — Former Vice President Dick Cheney is stepping to the side of Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Cheney's taking sides and helping raise money Tuesday for Hutchison's bid to unseat incumbent Gov. Rick Perry in next year's Republican primary.

Cheney is scheduled to appear with Hutchison at a campaign rally early Tuesday evening at Hobby Airport. After that, they're off to a fundraiser at the Houston home of former Enbridge Energy Co. president Dan Tutcher.

The event at Hobby was delayed by about two hours so Hutchison could make it back from Washington, where she has served in the Senate since 1993.

Cheney's blessing represents the highest profile endorsement Hutchison has received so far in the volatile race for the GOP nomination for governor.
