BATON ROUGE, La. -- A bill that would have designated the Bible as Louisiana's official book has been scrapped.
State Rep. Thomas Carmody, R-Shreveport, pulled the bill before it went to the full House.
Carmody said the bill had become a distraction.
Some Christian groups opposed the legislation, saying that inclusion of all citizens needed to be the goal, and that designating the holy book would leave out others in the state.
