NEW ORLEANS - Longtime City Council stalwart Jackie Clarkson has announced that she has decided to run for the District C council seat that she has held twice before.
The announcement came as she stood alongside Mayor Mitch Landrieu on a levee in Algiers on a cold afternoon.
Clarkson is prevented by term limits from running for her current At-Large position again.
Clarkson, 78, was believed to be ready to step back from the rigors of the council, but she decided to rejoin the fray at the urging of Landrieu after current District C council person Kristen Palmer decided not to run again.
Clarkson said she was answering the "call of duty," in deciding to run again.
The primary election is set for February. Her main challenge could come from Nadine Ramsey who served as a judge in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court from 1997 to 2009.
