NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Two Congressional candidate forums in New Orleans were a study in contrasts.
In one of the Wednesday night forums, Joseph Cao (Gow), the Republican incumbent in the Democrat-dominated 2nd Congressional District expressed support for Democratic President Barack Obama while defending his votes against some Obama initiatives. The Democrat in that November race, state Rep. Cedric Richmond, has been critical of Cao's voting record.
In a later forum, Republican Party runoff candidates Hunt Downer and Jeff Landry were highly critical of the Democratic leadership in Washington. The two will meet in an Oct. 2 runoff for a chance to face Ravi Sangisetty, a self-described conservative Democrat. Wednesdays "Alliance for Good Government" forums also featured minor party candidates and independents on the November ballot.
