Insurance commissioner explains what's covered during floods

Several Louisiana parishes have already been declared disaster areas because of flooding by the Mississippi River or the opening of the Morganza Floodway.

Statistics show that only a small percentage of Louisiana residents have flood insurance: only 29 percent.

With or without flood insurance, the best thing to do when a flood threatens is evacuate.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon answered questions about what’s covered Thursday morning.
